Everton Transfer News Summary (2019)

In the latest Everton transfer news, we see that the club are probably the main danger to the top six, and each summer they appear to get a little closer to breaking inside and causing a shock. They do not have the same budget as those in the top six because of their lack of European football, but they do have a record of spending money, and spending it well. They are expected to further improve there squad this summer, and there is one area where they look as though they need some help based on the performances we have seen this season.

That area is in defence, where they have struggled at times and conceded some very poor goals. They could do with a fresh face coming in to help them out, and that is where they are likely to spend their money this summer.

Thomas Meunier

Meunier has been a pretty regular player for PSG this season, both in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League, so there is no doubt he would add a huge amount of experience to the Everton defensive line. However, despite being a regular, his time at the club looks to be limited and it appears as though PSG are going to improve their own defence this summer, making Meunier surplus to requirements.

The Belgian full back will bring quality to Everton both in terms of his defensive play and his attacking play, he is not scared to go forward and get involved in play higher up the field. He is a dynamic player, and fans should enjoy watching his style of play. Everton are looking to improve the quality of their back four, and Meunier would certainly do that.

The deal does hinge on PSG allowing Meunier to leave the club, but they are reportedly in the market for a defender themselves, which would then mean that Everton can make a move for their man.

Kieran Tierney

This young full back could turn out to be one of the hottest properties of the summer, and already we know to three Premier League clubs chasing him. Alongside Everton, Arsenal and Leicester are also looking at the Celtic youngster, who is rated very highly by a number of people in the game.

When bringing players into the club, Everton can rarely compete with other clubs because of the funds they have available, so it will be very interesting to see where Tierney goes, and if Everton can beat off the competition for him. The fee reportedly required to take Tierney away from Celtic is £25 million, something that all three clubs mentioned would be able to afford.

While Everton and Arsenal both need a defender urgently this summer, Leicester could be the dark horse in this deal now that they are managed by Tierney’s former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers. If he has a good relationship with the player then that could be a real difference maker and that would spell bad news for Everton in their quest to sign the youngster this summer.
