Chelsea vs Everton 2019 Match Preview
Chelsea vs Everton has always provided us with plenty to talk about. Chelsea are not performing as well as we have seen in the past, and they have a big problem hanging over them that could disrupt them for another couple of seasons.
They are potentially facing a transfer ban, and if there is a team outside of the top six that could displace Chelsea then Everton are probably that team.
Chelsea vs Everton Head to Head
Last Three Meetings
- November 2018 – Chelsea 0-0 Everton
- December 2017 – Everton 0-0 Chelsea
- October 2017 – Chelsea 2-1 Everton
The first thing to see from the previous meetings between these two teams is that the last two meetings have both finished 0-0. Both teams have found a way to stop the other from scoring, and there is a chance we see that again here, with a low scoring game either ending 0-0 or being decided by the odd goal.
What both teams will be looking at is how they can break down their opponents in this game, although that is easier said than done. Neither team has a prolific front line, and while they have attacking players in midfield, they are struggling in terms of putting the ball in the back of the net.
Chelsea Team News
The Chelsea attacking game all revolves around Eden Hazard. The Belgian is key to everything they do, and he needs those around him to step up and help him out.
While Hazard does a lot of things for Chelsea, he is not a natural goal scorer and that is what they are lacking right now. They signed Gonzalo Higuain during the January transfer window and he needs to find a way of fitting into this team and scoring goals for them.
Everton Team News
While Chelsea work their attacking play around Eden Hazard, Everton do so around Gylfi Sigurdsson. He is not the same quality as Hazard, but he is a vitally important player to Everton and when Sigurdsson is playing well, so are those around him.
He is a similar player to Hazard in the fact that he creates a lot but doesn’t score many, so he needs someone to help him out by putting the ball in the back of the net.
Chelsea vs Everton Match Prediction
There is little to choose between these two teams, and that is because Chelsea are having quite a poor season by their high standards. There is a danger they slip out of the top six if their transfer ban comes into play, and Everton will be the team in pole position to take their place.
The aim for Everton, until that happens, is to finish in 7th position, behind the top six and show that they are the best team outside of those in the Premier League.
With little to choose between the teams, the slight edge has to go with Chelsea as they are the home team. With their home crowd behind them, Chelsea should just have enough to beat Everton here, although this will be a very close game.
